Our Quilting 'Angels' have done it again!

Julie Loehr and Sherry Oakley were privileged to be guests at the Orange County Quilters Guild monthly meeting and Christmas party on December 10th.
The ladies have really outdone themselves once again. They made 54 magnificent quilts! We received 27 of the treasures to be distributed to the children at UNC. The others will go to children with cancer at another hospital. We had to take turns choosing from all the delightful quilts. What a wonderful and terrible job all at the same time!! They were all so beautiful, there was no way to make a bad choice, but it was VERY difficult to pick ONE at a time!
We also had the opportunity to thank the guild for all the wonderful quilts they have given, this time and in the past. The quilts are so very special for the children and their families. They are practical and beautiful, but they also are like being wrapped in a giant hug of love and caring. That is a gift beyond measure.
Again, thank you for sharing your time, talent and love to make sick children feel better!

CIBC Miracle Day benefits Tarheel Angels Foundation
On Miracle Day, the first Wednesday of each December, many of CIBC World Industries Markets' customer businesses, institutional sales and trading, and employees donate all commissions generated on that day to support children's charities. Since 1984, Miracle Day has generated over $90 million for children the world over.
Last fall, Tarheel Angels was nominated by Estaban McMahan of Chapel Hill. We are so grateful for his generous support for our efforts to help children with cancer. As a result, we are thrilled to report that we received a check from CIBC World Markets for $13,000.00 from the Miracle day proceeds!
Many thanks to CIBC World Industries, Estaban McMahan and all the people who worked so diligently and hard to make this happen.
Special thanks to our treasurer Sherry Oakley for her efforts to pull together everything necessary for us to be eligible for this honor.

"Angel Share" Program
During the Advent Season in December, Hanks Chapel United Church of Christ in Pittsboro, North Carolina, sponsors their "Angel Share" Program.
Each Sunday during the month of December, each member of the church congregation is asked to bring a particular item that would be donated to Tarheel Angels Foundation. Those items are "sparkle" bandaids, toothbrushes for the kids and parents, travel size toiletries for the parents, pacifiers for the babies and small toys for the treasure box in the clinic.
We really appreciate Hanks Chapel United Church of Christ for sponsoring this very special and important project. Won't your church, business or civic group consider a project like this?

Kids Helping Kids
Also during the month of December, a class at Perry Harrison School in Pittsboro, North Carolina, is collecting items for Tarheel Angels Foundation.
Instead of drawing names and bringing gifts for each other for Christmas, Mrs. Mitchell's and Ms. Sander's class is collecting items to be given to Tarheel Angels Foundation for them to give to the children and their families at the North Carolina Children's Hospital. Some of the items the children are bringing in are puzzles, coloring books, crayons, books, games, stickers, stuffed animals and other toys along with toothpaste and toothbrushes, shampoo, and sparkle bandaids. A big thank you goes out to all the kids in Mrs. Mitchell's and Ms. Sander's class!
Do you know of a class or school who would like to participate in this project?

Band-Aids!!!
Band-Aids were collected at St. James Weekday School in October. The preschoolers brought in colorful decorated Band-Aids for use at the hospital. The patients enjoy using the "sparkle" Band-Aids instead of the plain ones. The Band-Aid is the good part of the shot! Thank you to St. James for supporting Tarheel Angels.
If your organization or group would be interested in sponsoring a Band-Aid drive, please contact Julie Loehr @ 919 878-8457 or tarheelangels@aol.com. We would be happy to help you get started.
